Marine carpentry is more detailed than standard carpentry. You have to construct objects that withstand the constant strains and stress your yacht has to endure during your cruises. Common plywood cannot meet the standards required and therefore marine grade materials need to be used.

One also has to recognize that the shape of boat furniture is not standard and that each boat is a different project that needs to be handled uniquely.
